The distance from the Earth to the Sun is about 100 million miles. The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second. So it takes light eight minutes to reach Earth from the Sun. Let's say the Sun rose at 6am this morning, and that by some freak of physics, the speed of light is suddenly doubled to 372,000 miles per second. If the day were to be somehow repeated, what time would the Sun rise this time?

SOLUTION:

It would rise at 6am again! The Earth is always being hit with light from the Sun. It's the speed of the rotation of the Earth that determines when the Sun rises for a particular observer, and this hasn't changed!
