Data mining, the extraction of hidden predictive information from
large databases, is a powerful new technology with great potential to help
companies focus on the most important information in their data
warehouses. Data mining tools predict future trends and behaviors, allowing businesses to make proactive, knowledge-driven decisions. The automated, prospective analyses offered by data mining move beyond the analyses of past events provided by retrospective tools typical of decision support systems. Data warehouse is a computer system designed to give business decision-makers instant access to information. The warehouse copies its data from existing systems like order entry, general ledger, and human resources and stores it for use by executives rather than programmers. Data warehouse users use special software that enables them to create and access information when they need it, as opposed to a reporting schedule defined by the information systems(IS) department. This paper describes about the basic architecture of data warehousing, it’s software and process of data warehousing. It also presents different techniques followed in data mining.
